Our history in Guernsey

1932

New Beginnings

Mutual Benefit Supply Co Ltd (Later, Sarnia Mutual) established.

1938

On the Move

Company moves to Church Square from Commercial Arcade.

1939

Channel Islands Occupied

Guernsey occupied by German forces.

1945

WWII Ends

World War II ends and the Channel Islands are liberated.

1963

Beginnings of Guernsey’s Finance Industry

First ‘merchant bank’ opens office in Guernsey.

1989

New Management at Sarnia Mutual

Vernon Etherington takes over at Sarnia Mutual.

2014

Moving on Up

Sarnia Mutual move from Church Square to the 3rd Floor of Wolverton Place.

2017

Celebrating 85 Years

Sarnia Mutual celebrated an incredible 85 Years in Business.

2019

The Changing Face of Sarnia Mutual

Debbie Paul takes over as MD, and Ken Bradley joins as a Non-Exec Director.

2019

Sarnia Mutual Go Green

Sarnia Mutual launches preferential loan rates for customers investing in environmentally friendly goods and technology.

2020

Sarnia Mutual is now Sarnia Finance

2020, a new year and a fresh new design for Sarnia Mutual as we have rebranded as Sarnia Finance. Still the same great service, just a new fresh look.

2022

Celebrating 90 Years

Sarnia Finance celebrated its 90th year serving the community of Guernsey.

2023

Granted a new license

Sarnia Finance is granted a licence under the new Lending, Credit and Finance Law, and becomes regulated under the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.
